You got that right, it's an "old man's car"

Keep the 993

Good. I'm with Peter, Dean and others here - do what you need to do in order to keep the car that you love, and let the other one go.

I drive a 171k mile Subaru wagon so that I can keep a 993 for nice days and a 951 for the track. It's not a bad trade off, most of the time commuting is a chore in any car, anyway.

Pare to the essentials, the rest is noise.

Well said, Ed. (Still using that car seat, by the way...on kid #3 now. Thanks again for that).

I'm with these two guys, I own four because two just can't meet the needs. Got the Lexus RX for the wife, a daily driver Honda to rag on while going to work, the pickup to use for whatever one would need a pickup for (so many reasons) and of course the 993 which has diplomatic immunity. I would sell the Honda and the pickup just to keep the 993. The MB is a great car but it's not going to make you happy if your a Porsche lover. Besides I think they're overrated.

Well, some good seems to have trickled across the pond as well. SWMBO and myself have agreed that building a 25K workshop (excl. tooling) is a worthwhile option.

* It'll add to the value of the house
* It keeps me around the place while fiddling with my cars, which she really appreciates. She doesn't really like me trundling off for whole weekends to my Land Rover indie specialist to maintain and repair my car.
* I'll save huge on maintenance bills. Changing a 911 clutch is 800$ in parts, and 3000$ in labor (not to mention a lightweight clutch conversion), and I can do it in winter when the 993 is laid up anyway. Same goes for all the suspension mods I still need to do, and general maintenance and repairs. Did you know a top end rebuild is actually cheap in parts cost ? It's not difficult either, if you have the room and gear to drop the engine. This equally applies to the dreaded CEL issue.
* I can do the maintenance to her car in a day over the weekends, saving more money while still being around the house.

I'm sure there's stuff I've forgotten about. Anyways, the calculations for the foundations have been done, and I'm currently organizing the paperwork for the building permit. Now how cool is that ?

Perhaps asking yourself this question will help you decide: Can I afford to keep the 993 and still live a lifestyle that's fair to me and my family? Just because you want something doesnt mean you should have it.

Is your wife being a b!tch or simply the voice of reason?

Mark, that "book" is hysterical!

I hope you don't mind but that volume is the first on the shelves of the lending library I've opened in John D's version of the Whack-A-Mole Game, the G-R Forum
