Lightbulb Repainting question?

another one for the experts

Does repainting a 993 diminish there value? I know body damage etc does, but I am talking about a quality repaint in original color. I have heard orignial paint returns better. Thanks in advance

It you do a really high quality job (all rubber removed with glass) and little masking you are actually putting value back in. If you can't wind up with something that looks factory or better then you are wasting your money.

The reason original factory paint is prefered is because most repaints are not going to be as good as the factory job.

As a buyer, I will argue a lesser price due to a painted car regardless of the quality.

Just for fun, I'll take the middle ground and say that it depends on the condition of your original paint.

Hi Ryan,

As long as it is a good quality job from a specialist with a good reason then it should not impact and could improve your resale value as presumably you are getting a respray to address issues with your paint. I had my car resprayed due to some issues with some prior cosmetic paintwork, the need to take both screens out due to a couple of rust bubbles and a new turbo bumper to replace the old standard one. I used a very good specialist, renowned for their paintwork but it was a while ago. Friends who have used them more recently talk of £4k to £5k for a glass out respray (so $8k to $10k) which is in line with what I paid three years back.

IMHO, don't bother unless you are willing to pay for a decent job as a crap paint job will seriously affect your enjoyment of your car and your ability to sell it for the best price if and when you come to sell it.

Cheers,

David
