Cheers, In preparation for my cross country drive, I'm redoing my stereo install.. I currently have a small (i'm not even gonna mention the name..) 2.6" X 9.8" X 11.35" amp that fits well under passenger seat but is starting to sound crappy.. what other amps out there that people have had decent luck with?
Here are the few things i'm looking for:
Small Size
Decent power to drive a pair of 6.5" 4 Ohm component speakers (MB Quart Q-Line)
Decent sound..
Thanks-
Coleman.

A lot of people like the Audison Amps. I went with a Lunar, one of the last handmade, US built amplifiers, I don't think a Lunar will fit under the seat though.

I went to Jamey Rawlings. Car is 96 C2 Coupe, non-HiFi. The Headunit is the CDR220 with Aux input. Lunar 2125 (2 channel, 125 watts each, $600) mounted inside the spare tire, driving Oz Audio Matrix CS180s in the doors. Headunit powers Oz Audio 4x6s ($125) that dropped into the factory rear deck. fade is set to image mostly from the front with just a little bit of rear fill.
I got a deal from Jamey on the Oz fronts, first off, they are the older Matrix version, not the newer (Matrix Elite) ones, they received a perfect score from the USACI (United States Autosound Competition International) He was going to put them in his car, but they are too deep and he didn't want to put that much effort into it. These Oz speakers are on par with the Focal Utopia and Hertz Mille series. Jamey sold them to me at cost.
They needed to cut out a hole in each door for the tweeters and expand the hole for the woofer.
Lunar Amplifiers are handmade in Louisiana, designed by one of the engineers that used to design amps for Rockford Fosgate in the 80s. I used to have a Rockford Fosgate Power 300 amp and it was one of the best amplifiers I have ever had. Lunar, along with Tru Technologies are among the few handmade, US built amps left, most everything else has gone overseas. I have been told that the Audison SRx and LRx series are made in China. Only the VRx is still made in Italy.
I haven't broken in the speakers yet, but initial impressions: Excellent sound quality, I don't consider myself an audiophile by any stretch, but I can hear the shortcomings of the Ipod input, quality CDs have more dynamic range. Bass is pretty good for a system with no subwoofer. I haven't decided yet if I will put in a sub, maybe eventually, my home systems have subwoofers, and thus something is just missing in the car.
Be happy to demo the system to anyone that wants to hear it. Jamey still needs to tweek the system a little once the speakers are broken in.
I would highly recommend Jamey to anyone in the LA area, his installer, Chris did a terrific job, nice and clean, not to mention Jamey gave me a ride in his Lotus. Overall a great experience.
PM me if you have specific questions.

Just Bought an Alpine PDX amp! Thanks for the tip! It's dim's (WxHxD) in: 10-1/8" x 7-9/16" x 2-7/16" Alpine Link So it will fit well under the seat.. I also have an alarm under there, so space is a premium.. I also got an alpine head unit, the Alpine iPod tuner, Link for the Head I think this system will be small but decent, with no amps or changers in the trunk & no subs.. (those dont really belong in a car, right?)
