Default Nuvi 350 problems.

Hello everyone,

A G/F is having a problem with this unit... used in Europe.

In fact, she was led so far astray as to spend an unwanted night in a hotel.

I then drove her car with both my Garmin 330 and her Nuvi 350 side by side. Wow, what a mess.. the 350 initially displays the correct route then as soon as you move it recalculates the route and often sends you opposite to the desired direction.

I downloaded the latest software, checked all the settings and still no go. It is a worthless POS at the moment.

Anyone experience the same problems??

As always, thank you for any enlightenment.

The C330 sure is great! Its gotten me to some out of the way places without a glich. I would send the Nuvi back to where ever you bought it if under warrantee.

I've had a 330 (stolen) and now a Nuvi 350. So far nothing like you have described, it sounds like an internal problem of some sort....

Ihave a 350 that works OK (in the U.S.). My only complaint is that ity does not always send me by the shortest/quickest route.

shortest distance and quickest route aren't always the same...in the UI you can select which you prefer it attempt to calculate.

Angry Frustration with Nuvi 350

OK, so you have seen my previous rant about my 350 which takes me around Robin Hood's barn to get from here to there. mbarkow replied by suggesting I reprogram it from "shortest route" to "fastest route". On a recent trip from Philadelphia to Ocean City, MD (a 2 h, 15 m trip according to Mapquest) it took 4 h to get there with the 350 on "fastest route" and the same time time on the return trip with the 350 set on "shortest route". The program is Garmin's "City Navigator North America NT version 8" which they update periodically online.

Can anyone help me with other suggestions rather than throw it out of the moving vehicle?

I went online and downloaded their updated UI.
The Nav preferences are
Faster Time
Shorter distance
Off road
The "Avoidances" are
Traffic
U-turns
Highways
Unpaved roads
Toll roads
Ferries

Not sure what they were in the old one, but if yours is set to avoid freeways, that could be a problem.

OK, I can now add something based on knowledge; In the Euro version and perhaps US also, there is a function which says "Use paying highways".

This function had been selected but selecting it avoided the toll highways. Since deselection, the system works precisely as mine.

Thumbs up

Monique-

Funny you should suggest that. Just as your reply arrived I was fiddling with my 350 and noticed that under "Avoidences" highways and toll roads were checked to be avoided. I have unchecked them and will test it on a long trip tomorrow.

Thanks!
