Default Best track tire?

I currently run Michelin Pilot Sport Rib tires on a daily basis.

I've done 2 track days with them and now would like to try something different for the track. I'm going to keep them on the daily driver wheels.

What track tire do you guys like?

What tire is the best value?

Best DOT tire are Hoosiers R6's.

Best value is very subjective. RA-1's last a long time but are not as sticky as MPSC's, which are costly but capable of approx 30 heat cycles, depending on how you drive.

If you've just done two track days, IMHO, you should stick with street tires for a while, unless your instructor feedback indicates that you need to be in the blue or white run group.

Quite true. I only have about 12 heat cycles on my MPSCs, but I also have about 5,000 street miles on them, too, and the rears just started showing signs of chording recently. IMO, the MPSCs are pretty durable for the type of tire that they are.

Would like a refresh of this thread...looking to switch to r compounds. Have 8 track days under my belt.
What about Nitos or Yokohamas r compounds?

Thanks!

The problem w/ many track tires is the available sizes, so my question is what wheel specs do you have and what tire sizes do you want to use?

I tried Yokohama Neova AD08's this year as I was looking for a more 'performance' orientated tyre. I was previously running Michelin Pilot Sports and the Yokohamas are definitely a step up.

Nitto NT01...good grip...very good life and resists "going off" like many other r compound tires...consistent...good price.

Since I get no response I'll just add MO
Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, almost no street driving I get over 3000 track miles 30+ track days out of a set

they are miserable when very cold and not so good in the wet either

For the price I have been extremely happy with the Nitto NT01 on my 993. They are dedicated track tires but I do drive on them to and from the track.

I've had to go with -2.5 front and -3.1 rear to keep from cording tires. Keeps wear pretty even. Although, I am not sure how to get 30 track days out of MPSCs. My current set has maybe 12-15 track days and I don't think they have but maybe 5 or so more days left. Maybe I drive too hard?

here's my current alignment specs, previous 5 yrs were similar, but have gotten a little more aggressive over the years

thanks for the numbers gentlemen.
I'll have to spring for uprights and tie rods this winter in order to get my car lower than rs height.
but I'll change the camber this week to see if I can get more days and miles out of the tires.
