My local independent Porsche shop has a strong opinion against the use of the FPB. His reasoning is that if the bar is severely impacted it will cause serious damage to the belly pan that it is attached to.
What experiences has every FPB user had? All opinions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Just a contrary view on the FPB, great for protecting the front from scrapes on driveways, speed bumps, BUT when reversing on or off a ramp in the workshop it can get RIPPED off don't ask me how I know
only realised about a month after my car came back from the shop and I realised the FPB was missing and a fair amount of damage to the boot floor had been provided to me in its place
If this wasn't bad enough, I don't even have a FPB anymore.

I have the RS splitters and, while the bar has taken its toll of scrapes, the splitters have as well. Since the splitters stick out in front of the car they are ahead of the bar so at certain angles the splitters will scrape before the bar touches. I think it works better on a stock bumper.

I am not sure what you mean, which pan? The bar attaches to a drain hole in the trunk floor as a center point, and has small wings on each end that attaches to the screw points that holds the bumper cover in place.

Thanks, earlier posts in this thread made it sound like it threaded into the oil "belly pan" under the engine. Not sure why anything would get damaged behind this bar that wouldn't have been even more severely damaged had it not been there.

I have the FPB, it is meant for very slow (<2mph) negotiations of curb cuts as it rolls over the rise in pavement and has preserved things pretty well. Nothing will protect the front end impacting at greater speeds.

I prefer the sound of the FPB scraping, than the plastic of the bumper cover. Granted, the patterns on each ain't that different.
But hey, take about 10 paces back and look at the front of your car. That FPB sure does look purty there boy, don't it!

My car isn't the lowest around, but I've not felt any problem in not having the bar. I was ready to put it one whn I lowered the car, but decided to wait, and I've not scraped. If I had 3/4" less clearance, I may have, but again, I've not seen the need to have the bar.

Doesn't look too bad. I think I was a bit disoriented as to which pan OP was referring to. My front is already scratched up at SUV height from previous owner and I will probably go at least to ROW height so I think I'm in.
