Default steering wheel revisited - 300mm?

Would a 300mm (11.8" diamater) steering wheel be too small for our 993's?

The January 07 issue of "Total 911" had an article "The Ultimate 911" by John Boggiano comparing the 964RS and 993RS. He raved about the aftermarket Sparco steering wheel in the 964RS - just couldn't say enough good stuff about it. However, he didn't identify the model # of the wheel.

I contacted John and he went way out of his way to track down the owner (who doesn't have internet access, or even a computer) to find out what model the wheel is. What a super nice guy - it took him two weeks. Anyway, the model is the suede Sparco 300 SN which is only 300mm. Seems like the smallest diameter wheel I've seen folks on RL go on their 993 is 350mm.

Will 300mm be too small? It would seem so, but does anyone have any experience with that size.

Seems tiny, especially given the recent "will 340mm be too small?" posts. IMO, 340 is juuuust right. However, it sounds like you have the fever. Sparco fever to be precise.

I have a 340 which seems just right. I could see maybe a little smaller for the track, but 300? I would want to drive one before I spent the $.

Yeah, I'm a little worried about it. The writer gave it huge accolades. However, there's a chance a mistake was made. The owner couldn't remember the model so the writer was on the internet site where the owner purchased the wheel, talking to the owner on his cell while the owner was in his car, both trying to narrow it down to the correct wheel. Although the effort was great, I suspect an error could have been made.

I'm afraid I'll have to go a different route as it just seems as though it'd be too cartoonish and too hard to see my gauges.

I'd say 300 is pretty damn small... I've driven a 340mm on the track with a manual steering 3.2 track car, and that was an awesome setup - but I wouldn't go any smaller on a 911.

My Momo Mod .07 is 350mm and just perfect in diameter, whereby the size feels right and I can see all of the gauges. 300mm is almost 2 inches smaller in diameter; I'm not sure I'd like a wheel that size.

IMO, the Momo Mod .07 in suede or the Momo Mod .78 in suede are the only two that I would consider.

isn't 300mm about 12"?? that's pretty small...probably OK if it's one of those chromed chain wheels and your are putting it into your lowrider

Cut out a cardboard 'rim' of that diameter and center it on your wheel: can the gauges be read??

Thanks Garth - excellent idea. It's amazing how one can so easily overlook the obvious.

A 300mm wheel would look sweet IMHO...

It appears to have the beer/Courvoisier holder option. And also tach delete.
