Default Mobil One 15W-50 question (sorry)

Hi all. I've been a member for a long time, but rarely ask questions.

I've read (and read and read and read) about oil for my 993.

I found Mobil One 15W50 with a gold cap labelled SM/CF - the bottle does not say "NEW!!" on it. I think MAYBE it's older stuff? Or maybe it's the new reformulation, but it does not say SM/SL.

I only drive on the road - no track events. I only drive in temperatures above 40 degrees. My car sits through the winter. I don't do many quick trips. I generally drive the car for at least 30 minutes at a time. I'm only driving it about 3,000 miles a year.

Is this Mobil One the stuff I'm looking for?

Again - sorry to add yet another oil thread, but it looks like the consensus has been rapidly changing over the past couple months and I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm looking for.

(Anyone recommend an on-line source for my oil filters?)

I think the "new" comes in a grey cap now??? I got a little confused about the whole oil change up and said F'it. I bought 15w 50 at Costco and so bet it. The bottle says NEW and I wont lose any sleep over it.

If people can drink, smoke and live to 100, my car will to. Worrying is what will kill ya!!

Check racing forum, there's info (I think posted today) about the new "old" Mobil 1. That stuff just came out.

Thank god. Someone else did too. I have had my 993 (1st Porsche) for 2 weeks and saw the oil in Costco and bought it. I was feeling like I was really naive after reading some of the other posts about oil. I had finally just decided to not worry about it.

Well - I kept on reading and reading, even after I posted my question.

I'm going with Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 5W40 synthetic. It just barely beat out the Mobil 1 MTX4 motorcyle oil in my mind.

Mobil 1 5w50 with a thimble of ZPTP-whatever thrown in.
I've read all the posts too... enough to cause brain failure.
I'm now firmly in the "don't worry about it" camp.

Me too!

If the gold cap is good enough for Viper Bob and his cars and sure as hell good enough for me. I have thought more about which oil to put in the car than what I put in my body. I have used the gold cap last few years and it is fun. I am sure she will be just fine.
