Default 993 motorsound

Does anyone know what the motorosound package is please? I've seen a motorsound airbox for a 993 in a parts catalogue which I considered buying for my C2S but wondered what the whole package is and what it does? Is it a performance improvement?

Many thanks!

Bob

I think it's just a drilled airbox with a chromed edge at the intake to differentiate it from the regular one. My car has this option, and it sounds cool, although in truth, I've never heard a standard one (driven at high revs) to compare it to.

No performance improvement, just a better sound, especially when the varioram comes in to play! The only other thing you get is a chrome intake. Save yourself come coin and drill a few holes in your standard airbox lid.

I was under the impression that it also included different mufflers. I could be wrong though.

Rather than buying an airbox lid, you can make your own by drilling some holes in it. There are plenty of DIY guides around. Much cheaper, and it does sound better than the normal lid. You gotta love that flat six induction symphony when you stomp on it! I've had Harley riders giving me the

The Motorsound option has a drilled airbox cover with Chrome Inlet, a great sounding set of modified mufflers and square Chromed exhaust tips. A very nice sound from this package.

I went with home drilled airbox cover, RSR modified muffers and polished exhaust tips. I like my sound as well.

Will this drilled airbox method work on a 95? I see the varioram mentioned a lot but wondered if I could do this on my 95. Also, I was under the impression, as is Toddimus that there were also a specific set of mufflers to go with this option....

Notwithstanding Dudley's praise, the Motorsound package is IMHO better than nothing... but then again, what isn't?

I find myself driving with the windows down to get some semblance of the sound I'm looking for. Then again, my living room has a bunch of Marshall and Hiwatt tube amps, so it's probably just me!

I can't wait to get my Supercups.

Right there with you, Matt - JCM900 100w head and a 1960 slant cab lives with me, too!

I have the motorsound original factory option too. I think as part of that package you also get larger, chrome exhaust tips (unless this was a C2S thing).

I have a 95 and I drilled my airbox at home. IT works, oh boy does it work. The sound at WOT is just....., well..... amazing.
Take the cover off, airbox and look at the ouside, you will see a rectangle on it towards the back. if you flip it over an look inside you will see, at the right angle there a lots of little holes, imprints of what should be holes there. Get a tap and center punch each one, the just drill. I think 5/8. Well worth the time.

TAKE your time drilling. Dont brake the box when you are 99% done.

Motorsound is definately three things that are different from standard: airbox cover, mufflers and tips. There is no difference in performance. (BTW- By itself, there is no muffler that will increase performance, so don't spend any money on mufflers hoping to gain HP.)

My version of motorsound is to buy the cover (~$85) and do the LPMM (~$50). If I really wanted to complete the sound I'd lean toward an aftermarket exhaust tip, but am completely happy with this set up.

Here's another way to drill the airbox, using a hole saw. It sounds great and there are no water ingesting issues.

I bought my 96 Targa with factory installed Sound package - tips, mufflers and airbox. I replaced the exhaust with RSR and I lost the WOT sound... The RSR does sound better overall though..
