Default Lost my only key fob AND there's no key card!

So how screwed am I? I have a key but no remote and there was no key card in the owner's manual or supproting docs from the P.O. The car is sitting in my driveway and I've been turning the house upside down- even went through the trash! I've heard things from "You're going to need a new immobilizer" to a tech at the local dealer that says he "thinks" he can reprogram the immobilizer in under a hour. The same dealer says there is no way to look up a key code. What gives?

With your VIN and proof of ownership the dealer can look up your code in minutes. Programming a remote take 10 minutes - see the manual around p. 22

Check out Robin's site at www.p-car.com In the DIY section is the "remote programing" article that may help you.

It's a negotiating technique known as anchoring. Now that he's primed the psychological pump for a big bill, if he under-promises and over-delivers you'll feel like an insane bill is warranted.

So now my next question is why is the dealer telling me that the key code is not published?

Is there another dealer around? I got my radio & immobilizer codes in less than 3 minutes from Clair Porsche outside Boston. Guy just typed in my VIN# into the Porsche data base and voila. I can't imagine why your dealer is telling you he/she can't get it for you.

It's not published, it's in the PCNA database and can be retrieved at damn near the speed of light.

Sounds like the stealer's employees are either poorly trained or just trying to milk a few $$$ out of you.

Good Luck......ZP44

Yeah I just brought my registration and driver's license (photo ID) into the local dealer and he gave me all the codes, including the radio, within about 5 minutes. Thay can get it.

You're all right. I called again today and talked to the Service Manager. He looked up the VIN and had it right there. He mentioned three seperate codes, radio, immobilizer and "Learn". Any idea what the difference is between Learn and immobilizer?
Thanks again for all your input- I was beginning to have night sweats thinking about replacing the immobilizer in it's entirety.
