Cruise Control Motor - Replace or Repairable?

Cruise Control Motor - Replace or Repairable?
I recently decided to get my cruise control fixed. My mechanic spent 3 hours looking at it and came up with the cruise control motor being broken. It seemed that his analysis was thorough, so i dont have reason to doubt him.
He said that they dont repair them, they replace them. A new one is $550 for the part.
Does anyone know if they are repairable? Are they any alternatives to getting it working, other than replacing it?
Thanks

The same drive link (control motor) is used for:
part number: 944.617.121.00
911
924
944
928
964
968
993
So I would recommend you call a porsche dismantler somewhere near you, or try ebay(Item number: 280105962936)
My personal opinion, even if it is repairable, I wouldn't risk fixing it.

That is a bear to get in and out since its under the rear of the intake manifold. Did you mechanic tell you how much time to replace the unit?
I have only used my cruise once in that last five years...to test it. I find I like to vary my speed and the cruise gets in the way. Do you use it often?
I second the recommendation ; replace it and forget repairing it, its a sealed unit and you are unlikely to get parts for the internals. At today's labour rates its cheaper to bolt-out-bolt-in!
Cheers,
Mike

I just bought one on ebay for $75 used (of course).
Thanks for the tip!
