Buying tips - 993 C2
Looking a buying a 993 C2. There is a 1996 with 55K miles which looks on paper and pictures in excellent shape and carfax is clean. Trans is a TIP. Also looking at a 1995 993-c2 with manual also in same condition with 47K miles.
I am only looking at TIP so that my wife can feel more confortable driving it, thus my concern with any type of these trannies is reliability.
Also is there a checklist that I should use to help in my purchase? I know buying a car from a PCA memeber may be optimal from a maint perspective, but I also know other clubs of German cars that not all go beyond the recommended main sched such as 3-5k oil changes.
Suggestions/recommendations?
Thanks

Best thing to look at is the Excellence article on all things 993 from a few months ago. There were a couple of threads regarding it- the search function is your friend.

Search.
PPI.
Note at 55k you will be looking shortly at a 60K service, so factor that in too.

Do a search on TIP and read about the lack of problems! You will get very few hits as they are pretty much problem free.

Either tranny is nearly bullet-proof. The 6-speed is the tool of choice. None that have a manual regret not getting the tip, the reverse cannot be said. Though the 993 tip is fabulous, these cars are best enjoyed with manual transmission. Just my opinion.

My first 993 was a tip, and I too chose a tip so my wife could drive it more easily. Sold it after a year and replaced it with a 6 speed - make of that what you will! ;o)
(And no I didn't get rid of my wife!)

If you do decide to explore the manual route, here's one you can't miss... and I'm completed unbiased.

Here is the link to an excellent, extensive, thorough PPI guide by our late friend Paul Lighthill. If you do all this, you will know everything there is to know about your future Porsche. IMHO, a good PPI (NOT by a dealer) is the best money you can spend on a used Porsche:
