Default Bilstein shock costs: FleaBay experience?

I've finally had the time to research the impending trade out of the suspension. I've had glowing endorsements for both ViperBob and Gert, but when I check eBay, the bean counter in me has to wonder why the delta. I know good customer service is worth its weight in gold, but there's a significant amount I'd be willing to put up with to save a number of hundreds of dollars.

For instance, here are new PSS-9's for $2,140. Carnewal sells them for $2,984 USD, not including shipping.

Bilstein HD's are much more competitively priced, and there's little reason not to give VB and Gert the business. I'm wondering, however, if anyone's had significantly negative experiences with ordering off eBay (missing pieces, etc.). Assuming I'm taking these to a professional wrench and not trying to do this myself, any thoughts?

Well, Zygmunt/Bimmerparts is about as well regarded on bimmerforums as our vendors are here. It's not like it's a guy selling out of the back of a van in a parking lot.

The shocks on Ebay may not have the additional thread cut into the shock to allow sufficient lowering.
Both Gert and Bob offer shocks that have the extra thread.

I do not have the extra tread on my shocks but I bought lowering collars to compensate.
Will Bilstein honor the lifetime guarranty if you buy from Ebay?

Sure, if they're two+ year old stock. And if they're Bilstein HDs, not PSS9s.

You had that problem how long ago?

RallyJon,

An informed opinion as always. Thanks for your insight.
