Default steering rack reinforcement brace

I've been reading about the need for this brace if you have 18" wheels, so I'm wondering where do I buy this thing?

Try Sunset Imports in Oregon. Should be around $30 and also get the extended length bolts (2).

This will help:

Steering rack brace: 993-347-131-02
Bolts (need 2): 999-218-103-09

Easy install. Good luck!

sorry if this is a dumb question but why the need for this brace? I too have read about it and I have 18's on my 95 (from previous owner) but I'm unsure if I have the brace or not (only had the car two weeks, one week of that has been in the body shop so I can't just walk out to the garage and tell)

it's needed to strengthen the steering rack, MY 96-98 have the updated parts. it's a breeze to install, about 6 screws holding the undertray on. Took all of 10 mins to install.

I got mine from pelican parts. as mentioned you'll need 2 of the longer bolts.

Raising the bar for stupid question- how can I make sure my car has the brace? I've been running 18s for three years now, so I'm hoping its under there!

Brendan,

You'll have to jack the car up and drop the plastic panel just slightly aft of the front wheels. If you see what looks like a 7" closed-end wrench up there, you've got the brace.

OK so to continue with the not so smart q's.

Would it help take some stress off the steering rack on a 17" car??? Is there any downside to having this on???

Tks

There are two downsides. It isn't free and it adds a couple ounces of weight. Other than these, no negatives.

The honorable Steve Weiner has always espoused the brace for track-driven cars with 17" wheels, so I'd go ahead and put it on even if you don't do DE's. It's only $30 or so and takes 10 minutes to install.
