Default rain sill grind off

Anyone here ever do this? I was wondering if it might look sleeker and cut wind noise at the same time.

It is a lot cheaper, reduces drag and is nearly invisible to add the a-pillar inserts from RUF.

But does it (a-pillar rail) actually do anything VB?

I see this question once and a while and have to laugh....on the Targa there are no rain sills (gutters?) and I miss them! If you have the sills no water can run from the top of the car to the edge of the door and drip onto the seat when you open the door. On the Targa if there is rain you run a good chance of dripping water onto the outside edge of the seat when opening the door and even the cab has sills....I would keep the sills!

The rain sills also serve as a good handle to get into and out of the car.

I agree. Forget about worrying about the targa top leaking - more water gets into the car when you open the door. You have to put a hat on inside the car before opening the door else you'd get soaked by the deluge.

However I love my Targa and wouldn't change it for anything!

I agree with viperbob. I saw some of these installed and it looked good.
$200 from RUF smooths out the lines on the A pilar and still keeps the water out of your car.

Is hard to see what these look like from the RUF catalog...does anyone have these on their car and can you snap some picts? I doubt if it will fit on the Targa since the roof line is slightly different than the coupe

Remember that the rain sills are an integral part of the roof assembly and if you grind them off, you have to weld the seams for strength or you will get roof skin separation from chassis flex.

And yes, I have seen it happen.......ZP44

Viper Bob, I tried to look on your site for these but I guess it's not up to speed yet.
Any close-up pics by would be great to see. Still wouldn't change the roofline.

Don't the 996 and 997 have a clean roofline? I mean, they don't have rain sills do they? So that means they must get wet.

these are not great pictures Mike, but may help give you an idea how they look.
Hopefully will have my car here in Vancouver later this spring or early summer- if you want to see the filler strips up close.

Nice pics Max. Really they are almost invisible when they are installed, and REALLY do reduce the drag of the rain gutters from the frontal area. CP has them on his RUF (dah!!) and I had a number of other customers with them. They were also on my car. For the money, a nice mod especially at high speed.
