i have access to a Bosch Hammer, except that it does not have the correct cable for my 95. it has a large round quick twist type connector on it. does any body know if or where i can obtain the correct cable and end for it ? thanks

You can also get an 8ft OBD cable from Multiplex Engineering (the Cable 15)
http://www.multiplex-engineering.com/cables.htm
The other (Hammer) end is an AMP connector (205838-1) with a flexible shroud (207489-1) and 8 individual sockets (66569-3)
The AMP parts are available from Digikey
http://www.digikey.com/
Just type in the above part numbers in the search box.
Cabling is for the most part easy - I'll try and get the pinning details later today... But I have found that the OBD end has two "K" lines split to diiferent parts of the cars systems. I have an OBD male/female stub that I plug in to swap over the two "K" lines so I can keep the common cable.
Jason, Any thoughs on actually connecting the two "K"s together in the cabling itself? IIRC the K's are the data return lines...
Oh, and I think the Porsche part number for the cable is 00072192883 (close to $400 each!)
Edit: the other part of the equation is to get the latest Hammer software (which is rev 8 IIRC Porsche # 000721928GV008 ?)

jason and clive, ok, so by looking at the a pic on the digi-key site, yes, the hammer does have an amp end, so was that end used to connect to another type car or are they missing all of the cables necessary to even use it? would it be possible the #20 cable would interconnect with the cable thats on the hammer already and plug to the port in the car? i dont remember if it was a female or male connector amp end. thanks guys!!
by the way, how would i go about obtaining the latest software update?

The connector details I gave above would be for the cable itself... the mating half (i.e. the connector on the end of the Hammer itself is different).
Busy weekend, so no chance to get the pinout stuff done... hopefully tonight.
Oh, and tha cable #20 has a differnt connector to the one you need. (the "cable #20" is 9 pins.. not 8 as per the parts above).

Pin #1 - V1 - Feed for Rev-Counter (RPM)
Pin #3 - L
Pin #4 - Ground
Pin #5 - Positive 12V
Pin #6 - V2 - Knocking +VE pulse on engine knock detection.
Pin #7 - K

Jason,
Good info...
The 16 pin OBDII connector pinning for those with this connector (late 95 and on) in the center console is as follows:
pin 4 = chassis ground
pin 5 = signal ground
pin 7 = K line
pin 8 = (alternate K line)
pin 15 = L line
pin 16 = Positive 12V
Which maps to the pinouts Jason gives above - (signal and chassis ground connected together in cable).
The OBDII cable does not include connections for the V1 and V2 lines - just GND, +12V, K and L
Pin 8 of the OBD connector is the alternate K line and when you plug in the Hammer and start diagnosing... the only things it sees (from my vague memory) are the DME, the ABS and Climate control units.
Swapping pin 7 for pin 8 (which is why I have a OBD female to ODB male stub assembly) then gives you access to the other systems (Airbag and Alarm from memory).
