Is he trying to convince people that Boxsters and 993s are of the same build quality or that they shared an assembly line at one time?

Just throwing out some actual facts, instead of a glorified myth that is bandied about here.

To quote Greg Allman on the "Allman Brothers at Filmore East" album, "Sumbody mussa' did sumbody wrong! I wonder who?"

Texas seems to be contending that Boxsters and 996s are made with the same caressing touch of Geman technicians as our beloved hand forged 993s. To prove his hypothosis, he posted a video from the Porsche marketing dept showing a contrived juxtaposition between a Boxster and a 993.

Peer review seems to be poking holes in his argument, however. We all know that 996s and Boxsters were built by Turkish immigrants and Finns.

I thought they were built out of the parts bins full of the same plastic crap as the 996 models....

Well yes, but when the Pakistani child laborers couldn't lift the heavier parts, they had to add more robots than originally planned.

Wow, this thread seems unnecessarily contentious. I just did a factory tour last week, and they definitely make some Boxsters/Caymans on the 997 lines. Not a lot these days though.

At any rate, the 997's seem pretty damned hand-built to me. I don't know how or why you'd want a car any more "hand built" (whatever the heck that even means). IMHO the only meaningful debate regarding old vs. new comes down to engineering design & materials.

I think there was a lot of humor in this thread as well.

However, anyone who works on these cars will be happy to tell you that Porsche quality took a nose dive when the 993 stopped production....just as performance increased. The "right" car for you depends on who you are and what you want out of a car.

Like them or not, there is more to the low depreciation of the 993 models then just production numbers.

He thinks that because a PR video shows them on the same assembly line, the quality is therefore exactly the same. He's delusional. And he brings down the collective IQ of Rennlist with every straw-man argument he makes.

An unanswerable question in this case where the definition of "better" varies so much.
