Definitive proof of 993 and Boxster going down the same line...

If "hand built" is done by craftsmen that have worked in a field for some time and have a passion for it, then it's great. If they are just "doing a job" than in many cases the machines will give a better product.
Funny story: I used to know an older German couple (they are probably 70 to 80 years old now) that used to work in the BMW factory in the 70's. They told me how many of the workers would go out each day and have "Jaegermeister" lunches then go back to work sauced. This particular person was assembling transmissions!

In this contect I think we'd construe better to mean more precise.
I personally think hand-made being better is an outdated notion. That said it depends on the man, the machine and whether or not its Friday.

Wow, this thread seems unnecessarily contentious. I just did a factory tour last week, and they definitely make some Boxsters/Caymans on the 997 lines. Not a lot these days though.
At any rate, the 997's seem pretty damned hand-built to me. I don't know how or why you'd want a car any more "hand built" (whatever the heck that even means). IMHO the only meaningful debate regarding old vs. new comes down to engineering design & materials.

I'm trying to shed light on these myths and I get blasted for bringing down the collective IQ of the fourm? PCar at his best! I dig you man, I dig you.

The three little pigs built houses. The house of straw fell down. The house of sticks fell down. The house of brick didn't.
What house do you want to live in?

This argument is like saying an apple & an orange from the same farm are the exact same fruit......and who really cares if they were produced on the same production line by some guys named Gunther or Tariq, they are two completely different cars.
