Drive it back vs. Transport?
I picked mine up in Miami and drove it back home to Atlanta. It was supossed to be a 600 mile, 10 hour trip, but I was so distracted with the car that I missed my hwy exits twice and ended taking a 200 mile detour adding 3 more hours to my trip. lol
Drive it home if you can. I'll be a great bonding opportunity for you and your car.

Sorry..I had mine shipped home...wasn't about to do another 8 hour drive as I had driven 8 hours the prior week to check the car out. $350 vs 8 hour drive..nah..we'll bond when it get's here!

I've purchased 2 P-cars in FL and driven them both back to MN - great trips except for when the 90 C2 quit in the mountains in TN and had to be towed in. Thank goodness for AAA and cell phones - turned out to be just a DME relay. Of course I had no problems with the tt since I brought a spare DME relay with me.
Are you buying a 993 to drive or look at?.............I agree with everyone who replied "Drive it back, it's a right of passage".
There is almost nothing better than taking the keys to your "new" porsche and hitting the road!
Good Luck & I hope you enjoy the drive........ZP44
PS: If you don't want to pay for shipping, call me and I'll drive it home for you just for the cost of gas & a plane ticket......LOL

But then again, I like to drive.......ZP44
I've shipped a few cars. Nothing more frustrating than waiting for them to arrive. Though rolling that car off the transporter, especially if its the first time you've seen it, is a kick.
Next car I buy from afar, though, I'm going to make the time to drive home. Am I crazy driving a Lotus Elise cross country?

Four years ago I drove a 1964 356C from SF to Houston in the middle of the summer with no A/C. Old semi-rotted tires, loose fan belt, questionable battery, clogged carbs. Made it in three days! Drive it.
Word of caution: check the tax laws in the state where you are picking it up and your own state tax law. I bought mine from a dealer in Arizona. If I had driven it home, I would have had to pay AZ sales tax, THEN would have had to pay WA excise tax. Shipping it via transport means you don't actually take possession until it gets there and you pay tax in only one state.
Glad I didn't drive it anyway. There was a slow leak in the Kinesis Supercup 3-piece front wheel seal, which the PPI didn't pick up. I suspect the dealer covered it up, there was no way they couldn't know there was a problem with the front wheel. Damn stealers
