Default Radio question.

I'd like to replace my after-market radio with an original Porsche model.

Is the CDR220 OK for the 993?
Does the CDR220 have AM as well as FM?

TIA.

yes the cdr-220 is OK, and it has AM bandwidth.
There is a tsb on how to adapt the unit to an earlier setup.
check the post on tsb's, it's called becker #2, cheers

Do a search on "Becker CDR 220" and you'll find several threads with lots of info, inc. install instructions.

Thanks for the responses.

I have done a bit of searching. Sounds like it might not be such a good idea because the LCD display viewing angle is set for Boxsters, apparently in a 993 you don't see anything in the display.

I have the becker, though different model, but same display.
The display is very clear, but you must keep your eyes on the road....

Thanks Geolab,

Has your CDR220 had the faceplate changed? It seems that Becker do a modified version so that the LCD display may be viewed in a 993 - maybe yours has got this? Other Rennlisters have said that the standard faceplate cannot be read easily (unless you stand on the seat!), because the radio was originally intended for Boxsters/996s and in those cars it is mounted lower in the dashboard.

Thanks again.
