Default 993 DME Modification for Tuning

Below is a '96 993 DME which has been modified by a tuner for elimination
of the Porsche Drive Block and to allow for tweaking of the fuel and ignition
maps. The DME unit was obtained from an owner's car being repaired by
an independent Porsche shop.

Wouldn't like to be on a long trip with that DME unit installed. There're all
types of Mickey Mouse mods being done by tuners, and this is just one
example. The late cars with OBDII are so complex and problematic even
without mods. So why "push it" for the marginal, at best, performance gain
and run the risk of additional headaches?
