Default Air filter change-does this look right?

I am removing the K&N filter from Old Yeller and replacing with:

Mahle - LX 459 paper filter

The question I have is look at the material surrounding the filter. Shouldn't it be rubber? Did Mahle go the way of Wal-Mart on these? The filter fits fine. Has anyone else come accross this? I have replaced these before and always thought there was a rubber gasket. Any help is appreciated. It just looks CHEAP.

Yep, normal based upon the filters I have been receiving lately.

Chris:

Thanks. Did they use to have the rubber gasket? Getting older and can't remember. Thanks again.

YES, they used to. I remember using them on the last 993.

For what it is worth, when I changed my friend's 2006 Lexus GS filter, it looked like something my child would be playing with in a toy car i.e. VERY thin material and almost toy like.

I guess that's OK as long as the filter media didn't change. Not a big fan of the new setup. Has a Pep Boys feel.

Jason- I am off to the stereo shop today. Do you need anything for your install on Wednesday. I will be there and could pick it up for you.

The filter looks exactly the same as the Porsche filters. I just changed mine recently.

The Porsche filters have the same feltish border. Seems to work fine.
