Default Caliper Painting - What to do?

I wanted to rejuvenate my calipers and was thinking of trying paint before getting them powder coated. Is there one particular brand of caliper paint that works better than others? Or is it a big waste of time and go right to the powder coating? Thanks

Hi Dave
Lots of good info in the threads.
Do a search on caliper painting in this forum and you will get some good ideas.
I painted mine over the winter and they cameout great; we'll see how they hold up on the track this year.

Its a matter of price and commodity.
DIY is $50 and a very dirty job.
Best paint I found is VHT, had it come over from the US.
Only problem is the paint dust. I did it in a dedicated spot, and had paint dust ALL over the place.
BTW these are brand new calipers, painted them of course unmounted, and the
lettering is painted stencils, not stickers
.
.

I did mine a year and a half ago. Still looking good. Here is a link I posted with some photos when I did it.

You can buy new pressure seals and dust boots for $50/USD per caliper from Zeckhausen and the VHT clear and colored paint from Summit Racing.

Depending on who does your powder coating you might actually end up with a better job doing it yourself with VHT. The powder coating on my front calipers started to fall apart after about two years of daily driving.

I also recommend the VHT paint. FYI, the red that they sell matched the red of the original big reds very closely as I used the VHT paint to touch up a set of used big reds that I had purchased.

Also, get some VHT hi temp clear to seal the deal.... so to speak.

i did it too with a kit from Autozone. couple hours. looks good. put about 4,000 miles and no problems, wash right up when you do the wheels. dont know about how it will hold up on the track. I spent most of the time cleaning them first to get a good base, the paint takes care of itself and comes out smooth.

I have a kit coming in a few days, the G2 Caliper two part paint. I did somem trolling around the internet and this appears to be pretty good stuff. The paint on my back calipers is peeling and it will also be a good excuse to get some other work done (like bleeding the brakes).

I will take before and after pics..

Cheers,

Mike

The G2 sites pretty cool - they even have a video tutorial on how to apply the paint. So the choices are VHT rattle can vers the G2 two-step epoxy or single-step Duplicolor? Hmmm, Pep Boys, Kragen or Napa.

G2 is the paint I also used. They give you enough for 6 coats. Get red color and it's held up well.

Used some cheap heatresistant paint on my old '84 many years ago.
Still looked good when I sold it last year.
