Check the switch near the door hinges and make sure it works by verifying the dome lights turn off (after delay).

Is your hood closed? I keep my hood open for powering my maintainer. The hood light and keyhole light will stay on - I push down the latch to make the car think the hood is closed. You just have to make sure you pull the hood lever prior to closing the hood!

Good tip. I never close the bonnet when charging the battery but I didn't care for the dome light while it was open. This will def. help.

Both doors, the hood and the engine lid have to be closed tight in order for the light to go out. Don't ask me how I know this...

Errrr....? "Light over key?" What are we referring to here? I want to see if I have this and check it's function. Looked around the ignition key location, but don't see anything.

The light over the key is a nice little feature Porsche added in late production 1996 993s. Basically it helps you to find the ignition key hole in darkness.

Mine works just when it wants to...not as often as I would like it to.

Reckon I need to drop the engine to fix this?
