Yes, a damp cloth is exactly what the mfg, recommends.
Alcantara holds up to heat and sunlight, better than vinyl or leather.

Yes we can re-do RS door panels.

I'm dreaming of redoing my interior just like that but in a new 997 color like Terracotta (I love chestnut on 993's) or the cocoa brown. I'm never selling this car, so resale is not a concern. Maybe someday...

BTW, Rob, I looked at your gallery and I am thoroughly impressed. You are a true craftsman. I tried my hand at recovering my race seats in my race car (first time touching a sewing machine), and while I am pleased with the results, it was a very humbling and frustrating experience.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I love that tobacco colored leather that's available in the 997. I have an all black leather interior, which I feel is too austere at times. Would be pretty cool to do a brown stitched leather dash, seats, center console and some choice door panels for a subtle custom interior.
Hmmm. very tempting...

Wow, and i thought *I* was crazy. I guess your project would be like mine, except you'd also have to recover all the vinyl parts in that custom color, plus you'd have to recover your front and rear seats. You'd also have the issue of the headliner and A and B pillars not matching, so you might want to redo that too. That'd be one heck of a project.

Holy Crap! What a project. I love the gray but seriously doubt I could have tackled that project to get it. Some of you guys are amazing the projects you take on.

That is incredible!
Do you have a problem with multiple different shades of grey in the dash, doors, carpet, etc?

Not really. The only issue is that the factory leather on the top of the door panels is a bit darker due to sun/dirt/etc. than the new leather and the rest of the vinyl. But this is true for all of us: even vinyl interiors come with leather across the top strip of our doors, and that leather ages a little differently. Gets dirtier too since we rest our arms there, etc.

Other than those 2 pieces, everything matches great.

Does that mean that you were able to get Classic Grey hides? Your Shift boot and e-brake also look like they match - did you get those re-done as well?

Oh sorry, I misunderstood your question. Yes, all the leather that The 928 Leather Shop used is actually Classic Gray. He uses the actual OEM colors/material. They also recovered my shift **** and e-brake handle so those are in fact true Classic Gray too. So indeed everything matches properly.

oh man, if you had only left it black, it would have been perfect.

I like everything but the color.

great job putting it together though.

I bought used parts then sold the black parts, so net-net it didn't cost much for the vinyl parts. It's the other stuff that added up, like the CF bits, leather work, pedals, stereo, etc. The carpet kit is around $650.

You can buy a pretty much complete used vinyl interior (less front seats) for around $2500 (just ballpark).
