I'm having my 18 inch turbo twists painted black as we speak. I think they're supposed to be done tomorrow. I can't remember what they charged me per wheel, but I remember I thought it was reasonable.

Hey Chris, that car couldn't have gone to a more deserving guy. I think it was a great move to get out of that SY GQ, as beautiful as she was, to get into a strong car with enough wear to feel comfortable driving it like you should. Needless to say, you seem to be doing right by it. Sorry for the interlude, back to the wheels...

Default Mr. Jack of Hearts.....the cost

is approximately $100 a wheel, I believe. I am just guessing from a faulty memory. The look is great with the polished lip and black inners.

Thanks all. Not to derail this thread even further, sorry for that, I do, very much, enjoy this car even though its not perfect and not near the condition of the SY queen. Best part is, Grant is enjoying her and is sitll in good hands!!

Thanks Martin...I violated a cardinal rule by sending my wheels off to a refinisher w/o checking w my buds on RL first.....now I'm on the hook for $125 per and the guy has bogged down on the task....

thanks fellas..... the black wheels do look menacing. somehow i like the 996 hollow spokes and the my02's better than the 993 hollow spokes in black.
after the rain we had the other night i realized just how bad i need new rear tires. hydroplaning on the freeway every 100 ft or so at 65mph is a little unnerving. i pulled into the far right lane and just putted down the 405 home with two hands on the wheel the whole time. i couldn't wait to get off....
anyway, i'll have to make up my mind soon unless i want to pay for mounting and balacing twice on the rear..... and definitely no more driving in the rain 'til i get some new tires.

Did the factory powdercoat any wheels? I spoke to a factory engineer from BBS not too long ago and he said powdercoating was hot enough to mess up the heat treatment of the wheel. I can't remember anything anymore from materials in engineering school...

I was wondering the same thing. I thought it was a bad idea to powder coat aluminium wheels.

I do like the look of black rims (satin) if the lip is silver. However, it seems this look has lost some of it's uniqueness the last couple of years and has become more common.

If you're going to deviate from a stock look, consider doing something a little more on the wild side. For example, check out the orange rims (and mirrors & graphics) on the new GT3 RS: http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/blackorange.jpg

I will tomorrow Mr. Sullivan. I just had mine painted and they are at the shop having the tires mounted up. I'll take a couple of pics once I mount them.
