Default Pilot HID Kits

Hi All,
I just got a 96 993 about 2 weeks ago and have been looking at HID kits to improve the lighting. I know many on this board like the Vertex kits. I did a little investigating, and they appear to be made in China by Exsun Technologies.

There are kits made my Pilot on eBay for $165. that look decent. Anyone have thoughts or opinions?

Keith

I bought a Pilot kit. For $200+shipping from the vendor.

Pilot

It looks well made and works fine. The ballast has cooling fins and an included mounting bracket.

The china stuff is crap. Save yourself the hassle and the money in the long term and get a Philips Hella German made kit.

Funny, I just bought a "crappy China kit" for $119 off of an ebay seller. Some here have bought it also... and on the 964 forum. Figured at that price it was worth the risk... you know, the usual logic.

I bought it because:
1. Others have said good things and still have them running after many months
2. It is physically identical to the Phillips kit except for the different labels on the ballasts

I'd guess that these cheap "Chinese crappy HIDs" are the same exact parts as the Phillips kit...
They are not installed yet but the quality of the ballasts, wire and connectors are great.
The installation instructions are a pretty damn funny read though.

Does the Factory or Phillips Hella kit do anything special that the Chinese version doesn't? Different lumens of output? What?

I just looked at their website and found the products worth a look... I will probably get 2 kits, 1 for my 993 and the other for my 964... Looks like a good project to work on before spring...

The Phillips ballasts are made by the "crappy Chinese" manuafacturers and have a different sticker put on them. I bought a couple of these crappy kits and found no real difference to other kits other than the price. They work well so far!

Cheers,

David

Hi,

I bought some cheap HID units off Ebay for £82 last week for my 993.
Installed them at the weekend and they work great - 6000k bulbs - visibility is excellent.

I would certainly recommend the cheap units.
Installation was quite simple and the Headlight Levelling still works.

Pilot kit works well, had a ballast go bad after 12months but the dealer swapped it out, no hassles.

Looks like a plug would stick straight out into the trunk from this pic. Any photos of it mounted and wired?

Not obtrusive - small bump in carpet

I would like the bright bluest tint. Does anyone know which brand/configuration has that?

Thanks to all of your input, my reluctance to buy a "cheap" kit has been abated. I bought a kit from flashplus on eBay for $120 shipped. the ballast looks remarkably like the Phillips unit.

Anyway, the higher the color temp, the bluer the color, so 12000K is about as blue as it gets I think, even purplish.

Thanks everyone.

I've had the pilot kit for 16months and 10,000 miles...

No issues. Works perfectly and a huge improvement.
