Default Question on Wheels

I have been looking for a new set of wheels. I have a '95 Polar Silver C4. I really like the newer carrera wheels. Should I buy new factory, or aftermarket?

Here is a link to the ones on ebay:

What do you guys think?

Contact Gert or Sunset Porsche:

www.carnewal.com
http://www.sunsetimports.com/porscheparts.php

Sunset's pricing is wholesale + 15% for out of state customers and they're very helpful.

IMO, the MY02 5-spokes are a nice upgrade to your car; modern, clean, light, and priced reasonably. Stay away from aftermarket (offset, weight, quality issues) unless you're willing to spend the same as factory (at a good price).

If you can contain your passion ( give your credit cards to your wife ), surf ebay for a while: a set of genuine Porsche wheels( verified by correct p/n's and ET values) will come up - maybe even on our classifieds, or on Pelican - usually at an attractive price .... often with good rubber.
I sourced my 996TT 'hollows' that way.

Matt,

I've heard of 18" wheels requiring the installation of a special bar on the front stearing rack. I've done a search on the forum and read some of the information. Did you install the bar? Was it relativelly easy? I was thinking about doing the suspension at the same time... The slippery slope.

If you have a 95 you will need to bolt on the steering rack brace. It is not very much $$$ and required if you run 18" wheels. Install is very easy

I guess I should go OEM. I was trying to cut corners on the wheels so I could go with the SUV mod at the same time. I guess I need to decide between PSS9s and Bilstiens. Arg, the slippery slope.

I have the bar on my floor.. and I think I really need it now that I'm running 19's.. :0 Where does the thing go, or will it be obvious once I'm under there looking around. I comes with a pair of new bolts as well, to bolt the bracket into... something... anyone have pics?

Replaces the old bolts and add the brace.

If required with 18's, it is 2x with 19's ...
Not really, but a good idea to install - remove the lower two bolts on the steering rack mounts - and bolt in the brace with the longer bolts: can take a pic later if it would help.

Have a extra brace and bolts here if someone is looking ...

What would be a "good" price for a set of MY-02 5 spokes these days?

Cheers,

Mike, I guess "good" would have to go with "available" since these wheels show up on the used market infrequently. I got sick of waiting... bought from Gert, but I know that Sunset is a little cheaper.

Twists seem to show up quite often, here's a set that will fit NB cars, just posted today, $1500:

Mike,

Fell down the slope myself - bought a set of those recently on flea-bay for $1100 + shipping including 4 used tires (S02As) and one matching unused rear tire (spare?). Wheels and tires both in excellent condition, reportedly taken off of new car after ~5K miles. Keep your eyes open and these do come up occasionally.

Good luck

Marty
