Default Stone guard replacement question

I want to replace the stone guards on my 96 polar-silver cabriolet. In the part list they have a clear and a polar-silver version. I think right now I have the colored ones.

What do you recommend for replacement? Is Sunset the place to go?

Thanks,
Erik

I did some searching on Rennlist about a month ago when I wanted to replace mine and couldn't decide between the OEM ones and the Invincishield ones (which are about 1/2 the price). I was worried my polar silver paint under the OEM guards had not faded with the rest of the car and would look silly under the clear Invincishield guards. After reading a bunch of posts by polar silver owners saying they were happy with Invincishield guards, I went with them. No regrets and they look perfect. Just my $0.02.

i too replaced mine with the invincishield guards.

two days later, and a combined 10 grueling hours of heating/scraping/cleaning my originals...i'm now a happy camper.

they are much thinner than the originals and cover a larger area. the paint under the guards was noticeably more vibrant, and if you look closely you can see the difference under the new guards.

it doesn't bother me too much, and they look MUCH better than the old, marked, and scraped original shark fins.

Are there any issues with yellowing of invincishield clear stone guards? Does it make a difference in practise that they are thinner than OEM?

Thanks
Erik

My invincishield's yellowed so badly that I am dumping them and looking for a better one that won't yellow. Perhaps having a white car is part of the problem.

they offer a 5 year warranty, so at least you'll be good until then

incidentally, they are under new management and are now called "Paint ProTect."

BTW, my OEM stoneguards were yellowed, but on the green finish I could not see it. I bet white has the worst time concealing stone guard yellowing - OEM or aftermarket...

IIRC, invicishields offers 2 or 3 different versions. the most expensive ones (the ones they say won't yellow) are still 1/2 the oem's.

Are you sure? I thought the 3M clear stuff was available in 8 mils (0.2 mm) and 14 mils (0.35 mm) max. Are you saying that the OEMs are 28 mils thick (0.7 mm)?

I bought the thicker ones for my wife's Boxster. Way too thick. I sent them back after trying to get them installed. The thin ones were easy install. Not the think ones.
