That being said, camber in the rear is adjusted by loosening the two bolts at the bottom of the shock--the bottom bolt is in a circular hole and the top is in a slotted hole so that the wheel assembly can pivot about the lower bolt, thus increasing/decreasing camber.

Jeff, mon ami - that would be front camber.

'S4' .... get thee to an alignment rack - camber is the upper rear link & eccentric, which is no joy to play with at home.
Rear caster is quite difficult

Why did I think he was talking "fronts" when he mentioned rear twice?

Unfortunately, your mind is the ~second~ thing to go.

so is it that hard to do? it has to adjust just slightly, two good waxs with a rubber hammer should do the trick

Boy, if this gets out, the entire alignment industry is going to fold.

It's not extremely difficult to do, but you need proper equipment to "set" it to the proper camber (angle).

That being said, I'm lost as to why you would adjust an alignment setting just by eye-balling it, unless you are doing it to make due as you drive it to the alignment shop.

At the track, everyone waits for high noon to use the rims and sun as suspension calibrators. It's the same principle as using your watch as a compass.

Or just leave the eccentrics loose and drive a session -- after your best lap, pull in and tighten everything down

The problem is as you adjust camber you adjust toe settings also and this will have a major effect in your car's performance.
If you can feel the difference an 1/8 of an inch in camber makes then you are good enough to have a full crew on staff, so you shouldn't be too concerned with how to make this adjustment.

And no they don't adjust by incremental markings, they use string gauges, scales and camber gauges (at a minimum) to make alignment changes at the track. Most also have a alignment pad that is alumiumum and able to be leveled.

Changing settings is not tough, but changing them right takes a bit more skill...

I also like to use the curbing to adjust my suspension. If I overdo it, I just spin and back into the curbing. Sometimes it takes a few sessions to get it right, but it's much cheaper than going to that nasty, old shop, and ensures my rightful spot on the HWFM Racing team.

You guys are smart. I should just use my shop manual to start fires.

I have done this and it is not hard. Look at the suspension links and look at the upper mount for the camber adjustment.
