What's happened to me? I've wanted a 911 since January 84 when Car and Driver tested that wicked triple black 3.2 Carrera. I waited patiently until it was financially "right" to do so, learning a library's worth of information over the past 20+ years and finally getting a "reasonable" 95 C2993 last spring. I was perfectly happy until November when the weather turned to crap and "princess" had to stay in the garage more often than not. I then found myself doing crazy things like making excessive trips to the garage just to "check" on her. Now all I can think of is ways to change her(RS steering wheel, shifter, wheels, pss9's,etc). Maybe upgrade to a C4S or add a 964. When I mentioned to someone that I might want a second 911, they asked why! Why? Why not!!! Don't they get it. I need help!
Cheers, Tim.

Hi. My name is Steve, and I'm a Porsche-holic.
Sorry Tim, there is no known cure for this disease. I always find excuses to go out and glance at Rufus. I keep lists of "possible" upgrades for some day in the future. However, I have no inclination for a 2nd Porsche. My lunacy can only support one.

Like I said, it took until my 36th birthday and lots of planning to get my 993. I've been smart to get the house first and set out to hopefully be financially "secure"(NOT RICH) later in life before indulging in my little obsession. Problem is, now that I have her, my "reasonable" side seams to be fighting a losing battle. Should I spend money on her? Probably not. Should I think of a 964 to keep her company? Probably not. Do I want to? HELL YES!!!!!!!
timothy,
What you have is what we all have on this board- porsche-itis.
Man, nobody- especially our women- understands but us and those who feel like us. When I first got my 993 cab, my girlfriend at the time dogged it and couldn't understand what the obsession was. Her ex had a c5 corvette that she drove all the time (automatic trans) and couldn't figure out why I was so pro-porsche. I couldn't explain it to her no matter what words I used. I was never gonna let her behind the wheel of my 993 so the whole feel apeal of it could never be conveyed to her through first hand experience. Not that a c5 vette isn't a great car, it may well be, but the feel of a porsche is different and one of a kind. Don't get me wrong, she loved being seen in the 993 with the top down- she just didn't have the same feelings about the car that I did.
The day she realized how I fealt was entirely through someone else's words. I took her out for ice cream and parked on the street directly in front of the parlour's door. It was a hot SF day with a bunch of people coming in for refreshments. We sat on a bench on the sidewalk next to my 993 and she witnessed folks looking at the car and admiring and it wasn't until two young boys stared at the car as if it was a poster and said something to the extent of "cool!". That was it. Then she knew.
The car was stock then. Imagine what they'll say now. See, those kids saw the car the same way you did back when in '84 when Car & Driver did the review on the 3.2. We all had our moment when we knew we had to have a porsche with no substitute. For most of us, we still want it just as bad as we did before we had the car. I go to the garage all the time to see my car. My laundry is there and I'll do anyone's just to spend some time looking at my 993. I sit in the thing when it's parked inside just to smell it. I'm always finding something to wipe up, check tire pressure, anything. We are sick and the only medicine is a porsche.
Get well my man and come down the slippery slope- I'll meet you at the bottom.

Tim: It sounds like you and I are just about the same, in age and motivations. I don't remember the details of that C/D article (it's in a box around here somewhere; I've been meaning to dig it out), but I still vividly recall the effect it had on me. So, wait 20 years or so, do what you have to do, and whaddayaknow, there's a Porsche in the garage! Enjoy!

I've had several nice cars including four other p-cars but not until I bought my first 993 did I have a desire to put one or two more of the same cars in the garage. No, I don't think this is a problem, I'm just in denial.
Allill: why won't you let her drive it? My GF is a good driver and liked my car but really fell in love when she drove it for the first time. She totally gets it and part of the interest in a second and possibly third 993 is so she can access one whenever she wants and so we can do AX and DE together. Rennlist, on the other hand, she doesn't get, but that's her problem.

You think you need help...................... I plum lost my mind..........
The only thing that's kept me standing pat on a pair of 911's is the lack of wealther required to buy 5 more for the weekdays.... we should get a latin name for this ailement and apply for to collect dissability... which of course.. should buy us another 911 each year... it's the only therapy that works for us!
