Default OT: Rolex Daytona 18K/SS

While I was searching for the Daytona 24 site I ran into this loose thread. I remember the green dial rolex being such a popular thread with this group (which I'm not trying to start again) and was curious if the Rolex owners and watch retailers thought this is a good deal? Seems I recall these being over $9K. And no affiliation with this company.

All gold or all stainless steel are more sort after. Not a much a market for two-tone. Hence the lower price you see.

This appears to me, from the one picture (which probably is a "stock" photo) to be a pre 2004 Daytona.
Not that there is anything wrong with that!
It's just that pre-2004 the movement was a Zenith movement not an "in house" Rolex movement. The Zenith movement is extremely accurate (actually my Zenith Chronomaster is probably one of my most accurate watches) and a fine movement.

The other differences between the pre-2004 and the current model are purely cosmetic and involve the thickness of the hands, and the markers.

Just be careful, with all the fakes and "foolexes" out there, even the experts get taken.

Also, prior to knowing anything about watches, I bought an Ebel for the ex from Jewels in Time and they neglected to tell me until after I gave my CC info(and I DID ask specifically!) that the "warranty" was only through them, not from any Ebel dealer. I know that does not apply to a pre-owned, just a comment on their business...

Don't bother with the two tone. You'll be mad you didn't wait for the stainless to come around.

OK, you got me on this. When I see Rolex and Daytona these days, I am not thinking watch. So when I saw 18k/SS, I had no idea what that meant...

Wait for the SS Daytona, Rolex has ramped up production so the wait isn't as long.

above said rolex is for sure a zenith movement, not in house, based on the location of the totalizers.
as it being a zenith movement, it has to be 2000 or older.

if you like two tone, fine.
if not, dont bother b/c two tones are very very hard to sell. all gold, white gold or stainless are better in resale. SS daytona's are about 8-10k on avg depending on condition.

i dont know if rolex ramped up on SSD producation but i sure a a LOT of them on ebay.

Forget the SS version, just go big and get the all white gold Daytona.

For some reason plenty of those available for $22k--the price of a nice used 964 no less. That's the one for the true ballers!!!

Think about it, 964 or Rolex Daytona? Not a tough decision

$22K for a white gold, now you know why an SS Daytona is so popular.
