Please help...am I nuts for wanting to do this?
I had owned a boxter a few years back and loved it but always thought it lacked some power, so recently I have been thinking about starting a project car using an early model boxter and installing a 3.4L or 3.6L (if possible) with a beefed up suspension, tranny, brakes, wheels. Although I like my 993, I am the type that gets bored quickly and seem to need another fix every couple of years. My budget is 40K for the project car. I will post this on the boxter forum, but would like to get this forums opinions\comments as well.

A guy I work with had a shop in Conn (?) do that for him:
1995 Boxster with 2002 911 engine, PSS9s, exhaust, etc.
He then got bored with it and so...
2005 Boxster S with 997 X51 engine, PSS9s, exhaust, clutch, trans, ECU, etc. (similar to the RUF Boxster S).
It's interesting, but.....

Track buddy of mine had a 2000 or so Boxster with engine troubles; decided it would not cost much more to put in a 996 engine (I always was wondering why I couldn't catch him).
He liked it but had a lot of overheating troubles in the beginning; eventually sorted them out.
I have thought that a lightened Boxster for the track would be fun.
