As others have stated, very cool thread.
By day I’m a mechanical engineer at a large engineering firm, I do R&D on a variety of projects for government. It's definitely a high stress environment, but somewhat rewarding knowing you are contributing to the greater good. My main specialties lie in structural analysis, combustion dynamics, and electromechanical controls.
By night I am a founding partner for a small engineering startup developing hydrogen fuel cell technologies.
In my “free time” on the weekends I'm a gearhead mainly for fun. I am an AEM factory certified engine management tuner. I do all of the standalone tuning work, and some prototype design/fab work for a local performance shop I helped startup a few years ago. I'm doing some more work with my 993 NA-Turbo this winter, haven't decided yet how much further it will go, or what I will have time to complete.

I am an independent Risk Management consultant; we provide advice to our clients about their property and casualty insurance risks, coverage, and alternatives such as self insurance. No, we don't sell insurance.
Our clients are typically mid- to large-size corporations and institutions, such as hospitals and universities.
Been doing it for 31 years; yikes!
Does help me puzzle out the vageries of track insurance for my Drivers ED obsession.

I provide valuation and accounting/econ expertise to companies regarding IP, especially for legal disputes. In a nutshell, we tell you what your IP is worth, or we testify at trial regarding damages for patent infringement and the like. So if anyone needs their patents valued, I'm your man.
Very interesting thread. Hey Mark in B- I didn't realize you got out of photography. I always figured you must be one helluva photographer to afford your car habits. Guess I was wrong.![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Eric,
Photography was a great run while it lasted but lots of national and international economic factors (9/11, tech bubble bust, Asian stock market dive) dealt heavy blows to the ad business, not to mention some overarching family crises that profoundly impacted my creativity, time, energy and health. I'm in touch with my former photo colleagues and many of them are still not making the money they used to, the bigger production, multi-day jobs being harder and harder to come by. I don't regret my decision to leave the business, for real estate doesn't require that I reinvent the wheel for every job or promotion as I had to do in photography (sometimes the listing photos look much better than the real thing!), but I do miss the lifestyle, circus-comes-to-town atmosphere of a big production and, paradoxically, the creativity of the biz. Photography and real estate have time-sensitive pressures that are similar, but that's part of why I love real estate and thrive in it. Type B I'm not.![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
More than anyone ever wanted to know, I'm sure.

Mark, we needed a little more real estate presence, I am a realtor for Alain Pinel Realtors in Menlo Park. For those familiar with the Bay Area, real estate has been an interesting adventure, and yes it has been fun, gratifying and allowed me to pursue many other passions. Before becoming a realtor five years ago I was a CEO of a small manufacturing company for 20 years making robotics that struggled more than it should.

Wow, with the way the market has been rolling, I would have expected more of my ilk...
28 year old real estate developer in SoCal, focussing on the industrial market. If any of you want to monetize any large tracts of land you don't really know what to do with, you where the PM button is. But overall, if anyone has any questions or comments, feel free!

Okay, my turn... I am in finance and operations with an insurance company (past 3 years). My background also includes consumer products, cost management consulting and durable goods manufacturing, with most of these gigs in financial roles.
This is a fascinating thread.

This thread was a great idea!
My job seems boring in comparison to alot of you......hmmm, maybe thats why I spend so much time on RL?
I work as an AVP/senior analyst for a billion dollar independent community bank in southern CA that specializes in financing commercial & multifamily properties and land development / construction projects. Formerly a Wells Fargo Business Lender and a Dean Witter Reynolds stock broker prior to that.
When out of the office I try to spend as much time as possible riding my road or mountain bike or on the ice playing hockey.

I am a sixth-year associate at a large lawfirm here in Nashville. We also have offices in L.A. and Birmingham, AL. I primarily do mergers and acquisitions of hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, dialysis centers etc. for both public and non-public companies with purchase prices ranging from $1M to $500M. I also spend alot of time syndicating surgery centers so that physicians can buy in as limited partners. Our firm practices all types of law with the exception of criminal, so if we can be of service just let me know.

Boring IT Guy. I manage a small group of other boring IT guys working for a small Biotech, Celera Genomics. We used to be a real exciting company when we mapped the human genome, but reality of not being able to make money on a "We did it first, nah nee nah nee boo boo" business philosphy has really put us back to a more grounded position.
My job is for no one to notice me. Remember all those big virus outbreaks... we don't. You know how spam is just out of control... we don't. You know how much email and system outages affect business operations... you guessed it... we don't. No glory in running an IT shop that way, but my weekends look like

. A great life for an IT guy.

I am a lawyer by training and practiced law for a brief period of time. For most of my short career (less than 10 years) I have worked for a big 4 public accounting firm as a tax consultant in the state and local tax area. I deal with income, property and sales & use tax and work mostly with mid-size to large corporations.
