What's the oil smell when I turn on the heater?
I'm smelling burning oil when I first turn on the fan for the heater. I just had the value cover gaskets replaced and they don't seem to be leaking anymore. Is it possible that it's just left over residue from the previous leak or is it something else?
Thanks,
Brent

Mine was residual oil from the gasket replacement. It went away after a couple of weeks. can't imagine that it would be anything else if your gaskets are no longer leaking.

I'm willing to bet it will. Like I said, took a couple of weeks for mine to go away completely. Nothing like having to open the sun roof and turn the heater all the way up to stay warm but not get choked out by the smell.

Thaddeus: If you are smelling exhaust, your heater is not working properly. From PSM:
"To avoid drawing in exhaust fumes when driving in reverse, the temperature mixing flaps are moved to the"max. cold" position when reverse is engaged."

GO drive it hard ! burn it off, Get it so hot that when you get back from said drive you can hear the exhaust cooling from all the heat for the next hour
The best way to lose the smell and the most fun !!
Engine tray off of course

Check the rear heater DIY thread thats active now. I think there is some links to the climate control system. OR you can just shut the heater off when you are backing up...

maybe a little oil got into the heat exchanger. i have a maple tree next to my driveway and the little helicopter things that fall from it got into the heater fan assembly. it made a burning/roasting smell when they found themselves farther down the tube torward the heat exchanger. i had to take it all apart to clean it out and i shoved a vacume down the tube that goes to the heat exchanger. the funny thing is that the car is in the garage 99% of the time i am not driving it.
i can see oil getting in there, not easily, but it is possible. make sure all those hose clamps are torqued right.

Old thread but it applies to my current case, my oil cap somehow fell off into the belts and busted my AC belt , high pitch sound came up and then smoke into the cabin the belt was still on but warped/shredded so cut it out, since it's cold and the other belts seem OK I'll put a new AC belt by early spring.
I do get the strong oil smell now which seems to be no biggie as per this thread but when I turn on the heater just a little bit it comes real hot, did something else go bad??? How to fix that I don't mind the oil smell but these days it's getting a bit cold and the heater would help.
Thanks in advance

When I had my heat exchangers off I cleaned out the exchangers, ducts and silicone pipes etc. I suspect oil from leaking valve covers and sloppy oil changes got into everything. That was 2 years ago. Smell has not returned.
