Are there dummy switches to replace unused switches?

I used an old targa top switch and placed it in the center position were there was a blank. I found which 2 pins on the switch will "close" the circuit with a tester. Then I soldered 2 wires to these 2 pins and hooked it to the wires on the button connector of the garage door opener transmitter. The opener sits neatly unseen in the center console underneath the switches.

If you have a large sized opener, or don’t want to monkey with your existing one, you can get a small replacement opener from places like AAA Remotes . Just make sure you get one that works with you opener (or openers).

Excellent idea about that Targa switch for garage door...I installed ordered a spoiler switch and carefully removed the emblem from the switch...kinda trickey to get it off and still look nice, but I did and it works great.

I also used the targa sunshade switch for my gdo. The p-car.com DIY was perfect. I am not a soldering iron guy, so I took it to my buddy and he wired it up! It looks totally stock and works great. A FRACTION of the cost of homelink too!

Hmmm - now I am thinking of changing the wing up/down switch to a garage door opener. Woner if I can just use the same switch and put a garage door openor in the console.
When I did the 'fan over-ride' I used the hazard switch that was shown in the DIY.

Those switches have (2) momentary switch contacts on them...for example: spoiler UP and spoiler DOWN. Your garage door needs only (1) momentary contact...press it once...door goes UP, press it again, door goes DOWN. You can then use the other switch position for something else.
I actually have my gargage opener and a security gate opener on the same contacts...the UP position of the console switch. So when I press my switch it activates BOTH devices. The idea is that the garage door and the security gate are WAY far away from each other...so even though I activate both every time I press the switch, only the device that I am close to will respond. So I have a spare switch position (the DOWN position on the switch) for anything else I may want to add.
