Default 993 RS wheels

How much should I be prepared to pay for a set in good nick ? Are there aftermarket versions that look the same but are cheaper, and are they worth the effort or should I cross the street when I see them coming ?
I now have 18" turbo twists and the'rear ones are too wide. I just don't like the look of asymmetric wheels anyway. Don't know if they're hollows though. How do I determine this ?

Thanks,

Peter R.

You can feel behind the spokes to see if they are hollow spoke technology or not. If it is smooth on the back side they are hollow. If there is a channel like recess on the spokes they are solid spokes. Here are some pics:

The "SPEEDLINE for PORSCHE" wheels... the last new set sold for Euros 12K +. There are no new front wheels on the market only the back ones through the Porsche network. Price unknown.

The logo indicated above is the problem. The only Speedline wheels sold through Porsche had the logo etched into the outer rim. This is what costs the big moolah... for the originality.

My wheels are going for refurb. During the polishing process, I expect the logo to disappear. A specialist made me some super thin stickers which can be applied after the polishing, heated up to make the edges rounded then the wheel will get clear coat. I have extra sets and they can be applied to Speedline Aliseo wheels to achieve the original look.

PWS in the UK has the wheels www.pwsukdirect.com

I know of a refurbished set avail.. (without logo... was polished out during refurb) (this is where these stickers come in...) let me know if you want the contact. Good luck

The aliseo wheels are not of the same quality as the original wheels, the ones I have seen had a smaller hole so that the porsche centre caps wouldn't fit.

a few sets knocking around europe paul McC at www.gtclassics.co.uk has a new and refurbed set for sale.......
I see a few sets a year come on the market requiring refurb,,,,these are approx £800-1000 before rebuild.

I wouldn't wory about the "speedline for Porsche " transfer, there are a few people in the Uk with re-production stocks of these and they sell for £5 a wheel......easy enough for someone to reproduce that in the US surely.

Peter, IMHO the 993 RS wheels look fantastic. However, I chose not to buy a set because they come with a very significant weight penalty. They are 52kg the set, which must make them one of the heaviest wheels for a 993 out there. In comparison, a set of solid spokes is 49kg and hollow spokes are a great 38.6kg. I have ordered a set of Volk TE 37's which are around 32-33kg.

So if your main objective is looks go for the RS wheels, but if it is weight saving/performance there are far better choices. Either way, enjoy your new wheels.

All the best,

I love the look of the RS wheels... After many years looking for a set I got one at Rennlist... keep trying! Don't give up!
