I would only Install a factory part, the other are useless. I am not sure why (or how) one would try to fix a part that was inferior when it was originally produced...but thats just me....

I'm still trying to figure out which switch to buy -- The $49 Kostal unit (964-613-621-00-01C-M56) or the $15 APA one (964-613-621-00-01C-M253). Is there value in the more expensive Kostal unit?

Yes, the Kostal works, the APA works too, but only 3 times and then it breaks. Ask me how I know...twice!

Ok. That's pretty much what I expected, but I wanted to make sure before I pressed the submit button on my shopping cart.

I had one fail too, on a Saturday naturally. Glad I wasn't on a road trip.
Now I carry a spare one.
It's stored in the car with my spare DME relay.

Both of mine failed within a week as well. I bought two from the local dealer. One failed again within two months. Took it back, with the receipt, and they gave me another for free. Two years now with no further problems but I use them very gingerly. Not a robust part.

I've replaced all three of my switches with the cheaper replacements. The first swap I did was with a used switch from a 964, presumably OEM. It broke after a few months. Since then I've only used the cheaper replacements (not sure about the brand). I, too, use them gingerly, and I've not broken another one for a while.
