So just in case there were any confusion in my previous post, I was speaking specifically about retaining the gearbox/transmission cover panel. I highly recommend leaving the ENGINE under panel/cover OFF if you live in an area where it is legal to do so. You guys are right, this post/subject will never go away. It will resurface continually until the confusion is reiterated once again, LOL.

This rock will just keep on rollin' back down the hill...

Speaking of rock and roll, wasn't there a song by the name of Sisyphus by Pink Floyd?

Yes...it was a keyboard piece performed by Richard Wrigt from their Ummagumma album. Not one of my Floyd favorites.

I can see the advantage of taking the engine tray off, as the air is blown down through the engine and escapes nicely without the tray. The transmission tray on the other hand I can't see any advantage in removing. It affords protection from road debris and the like so, personally, I would leave it on. My engine tray has been off for ages though.

I was told heat dissipation is better w/o the tranny tray at the expense of higher risk of something impacting it. Unless someone has done windtunnel experiments with and without it, we'll never really know what is better.

Kim: Thanks for posting. That's what I thought and was why I posted the question (that and the potential ambiguity of whether the term "engine tray", when casually used, did or didn't include the tranny tray. Does your 3.8 tranny require a cooler?
