Question Speedster 993 in Italy

Just found this ad at an italian porsche fanatic classified section.
No affiliation of course.
How many were actually made??
Anyone knowing the VIN numbers of these?

The ad says 6 from Porsche, is this true? Could this be 1 of them?
In that case 74000 euros seems fair, what do you think.
71000km and MY96

Interesting find! A friend just bought a 964 Speedster - think I will forward your link to taunt him that he did not get the last of this configuration ...

Porsche had considered doing a run of 993 Speedsters but they were too expensive to mass produce. In the end they built a few (6 or 8) for 'friends'.

Probably the sexiest 993's ever built imho.

Wow, thats nice. Unfortunately thats about US$100K after the exchange. a couple of years ago that would have been US$65K....its an interesting collector car at either price but a lot more intersting for $65K

It's basically a cab with a different windshield and top, right? What's so complicated/expensive?

"...Cab with a different windshield and top, right?" Not quite. The doors are different too, so are the windows, the rear humps etc. The interior is between a cab and the RS. Of course, a 993 cab can be converted into a "speedster" but it's not an easy exercise.

Oh, right, frameless windows. Still, a partsbin exercise. Seems like Special Wishes, or whatever they call it these days, could make them up as needed.

i dont view it as complicated, just rare... you know, it is a tom8to-tomahto thing... why are some cars so sought after and expensive? some think that they are ugly others dont, but if made in limited numbers/unique, many times increases value...especially in the 993 family i think...

They probably just had a few bits left over from doing the earlier speedsters.... ;-)

according to Adrian Streather's book, there were 7 made. One as a gift to Dr. Ferry Porsche, and 6 for clients. Sienfeld owns one....ofcourse.

This is an awesome car!! Sport Seats, Speedster....in my opinion, it doesn't get any better...but at a hundred grand??? A bit steep...but if you have to have a speedster...

Question...could one conceivably send a cab back to the Porsche Factory and have them make it into a Speedster??? I know that they have restored older Porsche's for select customers.
