Ashtray won't latch. Help please
I search all the way back to 2001, and can't find a thread on how the ash tray latch works, and how to fix one that suddenly won't latch. I heard a slight rattle like a small screw falling into the ashtray. When I opened it investigate, no screw, and it won't latch.
I think this topic is covered on that pcar site... but of colurse I don't have it bookmarked.
Any help woul;d be appreciated.

My tray came undone also. There is a small pin that controls the latch. The pin is on the right side. My pin was stuck up top, I pulled it down and put it back in the guide on the side of the ashtray. This corrected the problem and the tray stayed latched.

George,
That was the help I needed. I found the pin in the righ place and watched it go down the wrong track... until it went on the right track, and the latch is working again. Now that i see how it works, there may be a little adjustment I can make to ensure it always takes the correct track.
Thanks for the help.

Steve, time to sell me your car before it falls apart altogether. I will even waive PPI.

I replaced mine with a new one that did the same thing...
So, I started working on a fix. I ended up shimming the left side with a small washer. It is very easy to pry the pin out enough to slip the washer in. That solved it. The washer puts just enough pressure to the right to keep it on it's track.
