Default New Stereo System with Pics

Just wanted to share some new 993 stereo install photos plus info. I bought the gear from Ebay (Nakamichi CD-500 ($485) & Hertz HSK 165 front speakers ($110)) and Car Audio Innovations (2 x 8" JL Audio 8W3 Subs & Audison LRx 4.5 amp ($1500 total)). I had a local installer (Magnolia Hi Fi) install the head unit and amplifier ($422). That also included hard wiring my V1 and putting the Aux in 1/8" stereo jack flush mounted below the ashtray. I installed the front seperates, the Subs, and the Dynamat ($96).

The seperates took quite a bit of work because neither the tweeter or the mid-range fit factory spots. I had to break out the dremel and make the hole for the mid-range (6.5" speaker) bigger by 1/2" and the tweeter also required drilling out of the rivets that hold the metal plate, and then increasing the diamater of that hole for flush mounting of the Hertz Tweeter.

I'm very pleased with this system. I need to replace the rear speakers now - but that's minor. One thing I was worried about was electrical noise - like hearing a high pitched whine when you rev high, or have a big electrical load (like high beams and defrost on). My last 993 had an aftermarket Alpine head unit and JL Audio amp, but there was serius noise on the line. The Audison amp comes on silently, with no pop. And there is absolutely NO noise from the motor. It's good as a factory stereo.

So this was about $2700 so far.

The dynamat was a great addition. I still hear the motor perfectly well as its sound comes in directly from the rear. I'm going to drill the airbox cover for a little more sound too. The doors seem much more solid now and there is no rattle or vibration from the speakers even when they're cranking.

Nice... Good pick on the Nakamichi deck. I have a similar set-up getting put together right now, but with a different take on subwoofer placement and design. Will post asap.

The Nakamichi 500 is very slick, will play MP3s as well as Cds, plus to the casual observer, it looks stock... sneaky! Not to mention 24bit and very low distortion numbers.

Are your sub enclosure behind the front seats custom made or did you buy it off the
shelf. I am interested in addition something like that.

How and where did you run the dash-to-the-trunk/hood wiring?

There is a large grommet sitting behind the glovebox that makes it easy to run subwoofer wiring through.
