There are many variants of the GIAC program.. I am sure that most larger vendors like Steve have access to big array of 'tweeked' chips that are based on the stock GIAC program. So there are programs for dif types of gas, cars with cams, cars with hi-flow cats, cars with LWF and so on.. by learning exactly what your car has and will do the correct GIAC program can be used.. I am also sure the stock chip gets you 80% there, talking to a good vendor gets you a bit farther and a full live rolling road remap gets you all the way.

I passed along a message that I received from Steve to Ron who is coordinating the group buy. Steve is interested in working with the group. I like Steve's chip because his dyno data is based on 91 Octane fuel from California. 91 Octane is available country-wide. Most fuel is of a higher quality than that sold in CA because of the strict emission standards in CA so the chip should work nicely. Pete

So, where are these "dyno data", perferably in "before & after" tests?
Or are we to assume the typical measure, i.e. "Oh, it does "feel" better"?

my preference is the GIAC chip. I have the 93 octane chip from Steve. The 93 Octane chip produce 3 hp on a dyno, but it smoothened out the power curve nicely as compared to the autothority and stock chip. I have a '95 so smoothing out the power curve is really nice.

From what i've been told a custom map can gain you far more hp, but there is very limited gains unless one runs higher octane gas.

In my case, i run a mixture of 91 and 100 and i get it to equal to about 93.5.

More hyperbole!

So what does a "custom" do when all that's done is additional timing advance in all performance
chips and most/all have NO real engine mods, e.g. bigger P/Cs, different intake system, and/or
etc. requiring a possible fuel tweak?

That's it! It's all in the timing. It's very simple:

More air "in" = More fuel "in" = More energy "out" (torque)
More fuel "in" & no more air "in" = Wasted fuel "out"

we get 94 octane up here in Montreal canada (the government encourages performance). when u say Stves chip was tested for 91 octane, does this mean the results are atleast the same if not better for 91 octane and up (to 94)?
