Default FVD/Raid Steering wheels

I know a bunch of you guys have these things and I am thinking of jumping in. I am curious about the hub though. How far from the steering column does the wheel sit? How big is the hub from the column to the wheel? Is the leather hub worth the extra money? Any pics of this area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

turbo138 .. Great looking wheel. How did you put the "Porsche" on the wheel?

I was considering putting together a group buy for the Sport Steering Wheel "Silberpfeil" 340mm (Black Leather) with airbag. It would be about $730 for the steering wheel, a black leather hub and shipping. I not sure of the interest (I would need 10 buyers) and lying out over $7300.

Jen did approve it if I wanted to go forward. Any thoughts?

No run for me....just got back from Menlo Park visiting my brother and his family. Put over 800 miles on the 993 in two days. Drove 400 miles up with the top down. Came home with it up...I wussed out.

138,

Looks great! I'm thinking of doing a carbon wheel. Do you have any pics of the hub or from the back of the wheel?

I also noticed that you don't have a logo on the bottom of the wheel. Did you take it off? I have heard it is just stuck on with a bit of glue.

Thanks Tom,
Don't worry too much about the hub, it's direct bolt on.
Yes there was a Raid logo, if you remove the logo, there is a mark (attached pic), you'll need to re-leather like mine.

Chuck,
These are the same wheels Gert is selling with contrast stitching...?
Where are you thinking of doing the group buy from?
Can someone please post a picture from above, ie. the hub....

FYI, at www.FVD-usa.com, that wheel is now on clearance at $670 USD.

Check this one out from Gert.... deviated stitching. Also looks like a thicker rim. Can't seem to find this model on FVD's website. Thoughts?

That's who I was going to buy from for the group buy.

677.70 Sale Price
149.00 Hub
20.00 Shipping
$846.70 Total for sale price

The group price would be about $115 savings.

I wish one of these companies would offer a nice simple wheel like the 996 wheel, just a cm or two smaller diameter. I don't much care for deeply sculpted wheels like this one, and that airbag is so huge it looks like one from the '90s. Airbags are so much smaller these days, so why use that pillow?

I have to agree with you. The big selling point for me on this wheel is the feel. As far as looks .. it isn't the most appealing. The lettering or stitching does help.
