Jeff,
I live pretty close to you, and since I was planning on doing this also, maybe if I bring the appropriate beverages we can both hit it hard and get it done.

That sounds good, Drew.

I will probably be doing it just after Christmas, if that's okay.

How cool is the generosity on this place! Love it.

A tip to the uninitiated: vice grips are your best friend in the valve removal challenge. The crows foot works ok for tightening, however, if you are getting major resistance in the removal stage do not despair and do not risk crimping one of the thin tubes which surround the valve by pushing too hard and having the wrench head slip. A healthy whack of the valve with a rubber mallet and the vice grips around its torso will work wonders. Just a thought if you encounter a frozen on valve which many have. Thanks to Robin S. and I think Chris W. for this little suggestion. Have fun you guys!

I would offer mine (as in the first pic) but its still down in Seattle with another Rennlister...they are pretty easy to make (nice grind job on mine, eh?).

Cheers,

Mike

Without having to look up the DIY what is the size of the crows foot socket? I may pick one up the next time I'm by a Sears.

It's 27mm. My local Sears did not have metric crows foot wrenches, so I bought a 1" and ground it to 27mm. 1 1/16" is just over 27mm, but I'd recommend buying or grinding to 27mm as a solid fit on the check valve is important.

Thanks muchly, I'll add it to my Sears shopping list. I have a set of Sears flare-crows but not to 27mm.

Flare-crows would not work if the valve is intact. Open-end is required.

When removing mine I used the crows foot to break it free. It was stuck pretty well. Once free I used a pair of vise-grips to turn it out.

I have a ground crows foot also. If the demand is not being met with the others that have offered send me a PM. I'll put mine into play...
