Question Newbie: 97 Carrera vs. C2, C2S

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the 993's and could use your expertise! I'm in the market for a 97/98 (Black or Blue/Tan) tiptronic 993. I came across this ebay auction but I'm not sure if the vehicle description is accurate.

Can I get your opinions on this Ebay auction

Also what are the differences between the 97 Carrera, C2, C2S

Thanks

Great Forum!

Welcome... as nice as those pics are and if you're serious about the car just make sure you get a pre purchase inspection (PPI) before buying. It will saves you alot of headache and money down the road.

Good Luck.

A couple points:

1) I've seen this seller's ads before and, honestly, the whole "celebrity" thing is really annoying.
2) However, the car seems generally on the up-and-up, although I would like to see a picture of the option sticker under the front bonnet to confirm "full leather" (I can't tell if the rear seats and the backs of the front seats are really leather). You can use the VIN to call 1-800-PORSCHE to see what options the car came with and what outstanding recalls there are.
3) The car probably has the original shocks (since it's still at the SUV ride height), which means there is a good chance they are shot and need to be replaced.
4) Someone put in a few aftermarket items--exhaust tips, door sills, etc.
5) The wheels have curb rash.

Also, those are clearly stock 17" cup wheels rather than 18" turbo wheels as is claimed several times in the ad... that might give you an indication of who you're dealing with.... Sounds like PPI time for sure. Otherwise the car looks good.

Dave,

When I was first in the market for a 993, I thought I must have a wide-bodied car. I since ended up with a 993 turbo... two of them actually. My point, however is that I later discovered that there is actually only a small difference in the look between the C2 and C2S... so unless you're really hung up on those extra two inches (hold the jokes... I'm talking about the rear of the 993), the market gets larger and cheaper for "narrow" C2 cars. Try to see the difference with your own eyes, and then decide how important it is. Also, be sure to notice that the front bumper is also different on the S... see if that matters also.

No kidding huh. Nice car and everything, but as nice as it is, I don't think it will garner much attention on south beach.

Not too bad a price for the car if the PPI checks out strong. Suspension comment is right on. When I bought my Mid Blue Tip they were in need of replacement as well. Very happy now with the lower ride height and responsiveness of the PSS9s. The exhaust tip on the passenger side can be adjusted in about 5 minutes, so no worry there. The seats have been sprayed to refresh the color - not sure how that process works, but you can see in one of the pics where that beige is on the hinge assembly between the seat cushion and the back. Overall nice looking car. Make sure the vin checks out with no rollback.

Funny that you are looking for the same car that I have!

Are you talking about this picture?

If so, good catch. I don't think I would have noticed that.

By the way, with the hood up, you can see a bunch of dried up leaves in the seams.....I wonder if it really was "garage kept" recently.

But, unlike the ad, I bet yours really does have the Turbo Twists.
