In theory I agree 911addict, but I live in the land of Giant Trucks (Texas) where 99% of drivers are on their cell phone 24/7 and don't use their indicators when they change lanes, so I promised myself my next car would have airbags. The main reason I got out of my Elise and into a Boxster S was the increase in size and the added safety features. I'm not obsessed, not gonna get a Volvo, but I think if there's a classic looking driver's car out there that also has some semblance of modern safety devices, it makes sense to choose it over one that doesn't.
Looks-wise, I'm going against the grain as I actually I prefer the 964... so the extra cost of a 993 for it's looks doesn't equate for me. BUT more than looks it's about the drive. I intend to try both cars and take it from there.
If anyone in the Austin area has a 993 and would like to show it off to me, please get in touch!

Not to be contentious here, but what is a "driver's car" anyway? Those who enjoy the more raw experience of the pre-993 (that includes me, ok) own one of these fine cars. And some even prefer the more visceral feedback from earlier cars on a daily basis (ok, that's not me). But none of this in any way makes a pre-993 any *more* of a "driver's" car over a 993.
Anyone who has ever taken a fast drive in a 993 or, better yet, put a 993 even in bone-stock trim on the track, would KNOW how well a 993 fits the definition of a "driver's car." It's all about which car fills your desires and suits your needs. Like the age-old saw about the 996's superiority over the 993 et.al., the inescapable facts are the newer cars are quicker, have a markedly stiffer chassis, and can be driven around a track or canyon road ultimately faster; but none of which makes that series a better car for, oh say, me.
As has been said in all too many previous threads when one is deciding between this version or that, advice here on this board serves excellent food for thought, but ultimately the drive is where you should decide. Best of luck, and let us know how you choose![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Pulled the 993 out of the garage and drove it all over the place yesterday (OK, mainly because I discovered that my 964 sunroof was leaking.. freaking.. KNEW my pants felt wet the last two days, when I got ot work).
I'm like the house of pancakes... waffling all over the place. *my* 993 is a better can than *my* 964. One of the big improvements is the smooth shifting of the 6 speed gearbox compared to the 5 speed (which is supposed to be a hell of a lot better than the pre 89 5-speeds). At any rate.. there is a CLEAR reason to own both!

We're all cool here ...at least for me. Besides, that wouldn't be the first time I misunderstood anyone. ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I was reacting more to the words (as I have seen them many times before) than to the words as your sentiment. Sorry if that came off brash.

I think its great a 'girl' choosing a 911 (whichever version). The 911 world is a very male dominated one. Just look at the membership on Rennlist. i don't think I've ever noticed a female posting before.
Lets have more girls in 911's!

speaking of women and porsches, few weeks ago i went to vertex here in miami to buy few parts, and there she was, a beautiful early 30's beauty in a tight red dress and high hill shoes waiting to pick up her car from the service department, i look out and she was driving a red clean SC .
i still regret not starting a conversation, but then again, she was on her way out when i got there.
there is just something about a woman in an old school porsche in a red dress.
