Default area around shifter and spoiler buttons

On black interiors, why do these two areas look brownish?

Hm, can't say I've noticed this..... do you have a photo of what you are talking about?

sure do.

Beautiful interior, but under the hand brake, by the emergency flashers, and the hvac controls really looks brown.

This is the dyes/plastics discoloring. It happens in most of our cars. You'll see it around the buttons, in the tray below the hand brake, and around the climate controls.

It's not as noticeable under normal circumstances--this is a flash photo.

can it be redyed, or does it just need to be replaced.

are these parts available, and are they pricey to your knowledge?

Thanks

I always see it as a bit of eye relief in a sea of tortuous darkness.

Quadcammer...you might try a product made by Mothers called "Back to Black". I have used this with good results on the same areas as well as the back spoiler grill...makes them look brand new. Not trying to push the product, just reporting my results. Good luck.

I've never seen these part not look brownish, even when new.

I really can't stand how they look in the black interior. The best thing I have thought about doing would be to replace these part with the carbon fiber parts. If it wasn't such a hassle I'd ship the parts to these guys http://www.cup-sport.de/ and have them put the CF look stuff on them, after all that is all the OEM Porsche CF is anyway.

Krylon makes a spray paint specifically for interior plastic components. I've seen it in other applications and it works pretty well.

Lots of colors too if you want to try lime green or something to blend in with the ricer crowd.

Any good auto upholstery shop can spray it and make it look perfectly black.
Best place to check is the Porsche Dealer and ask who does their interior repairs.
In South Florida we have a guy who can make all leather and plastic look like new.
He does steering wheels, seats, dashboards, door panels and any other interior parts.
He does it all with an airbrush. I watched him take a worn out steering wheel and made it like new.

I'm assuming you are referring to how those areas look in photos? I asked the same question of a seller when I was looking for a car to purchase. This is just something that "appears" to be the case in photos but does not look that way with the naked eye. I noticed the same thing with the interior of my car once and it most definately looks black in person.

It looks brown to my eye in person. Kind of annoying...

I've also noticed this in a lot of RL photos... But, my car is perfectly black. I've got the full leather interior and my parts are leather covered, so I think that explains why. I frankly think it looks a lot better in solid, monochromatic black, but that's just an opinion...
