David

I think Danny F1 built one of these back when he was sailing the high seas for months on end.

He may have ideas for you.

Thanks Mike,

I'll ask. I almost bought one of these years back but was put off by the lack of detail which is now being addressed by specialists. When I was a kid my model shop sold the old Pocher kits (Bugattis and Rolls Royces) which had thousands of pieces and mimicked the materials of the originals (leather seats, metal bodies, real wire wheels that had to put together, etc) whereas this kit only has 350 parts. It's like an over-priced, over-sized Burago model! But then again they do a silver one that matches my car so down the slope we go!

Cheers,

David

Talking about awesome Porsche models, have you guys seen the models Porsche mechanics have to build as a part of job training (or at least they used to do)? Awesome models!

I haven't but I bet they are pretty good! Although judging by their transition to more normal building methods they probably soon have them completing kits rather than fabricating things....

I would not mind trying to convert the silver kit to Polar Silver to match my car. anyone have any thoughts on how to accomplish this?

Just take all the pices to your body shop and have him paint them or if you can do it by yourself, have a go at it. Paint can be mixed with your paint code.

This is awesome! Oh... a winter project might be in the works if I can convince myself to part with the dough. Love doing this stuff. How big are these things? at 1/8 th scale.. they've gotta be around 22" or ???? in length!?!? Oh.. then of course, has anyone put an RC setup in one?

The Pocher silver IS Polar Silver!!!
When I owned Fast Lane Scale Models I bought about a dozen of these from the US distributor for 100 bucks each. Sold them for 200 and thought I made a killing! I kept two for myself, built one and let a friend have the other one at my cost.
It's really hard to build one and get everything to fit the way it's supposed to. The rear wheels/tires refuse to fit inside the fenders without alot of persuasion.
For a LARGE scale model, it's VERY plain without all the aftermarket goodie add-ons.
Be aware that after you build it, it will be worth maybe 1/4 of what you paid for it!

Thumbs up

Robert,

The great news is that with the recent popularity even the built kits have been going for good money; especially the silver ones. Silver built cars have gone for anywhere between $255 and $480!. It's all gone a bit mental.

That is great news about the silver ones being polar silver; I always thought in the photos they looked the same kind of colour.

FotoVeloce - if you want radio control then get a vintage Tamiya GT2 1/10th kit. They have a very realistic bodyshell and you can go mad on tune-up items for them... Yet another slippery slope. Here is a picture of oneonscured by a rather fetching clock!and also the picture that someone else posted that sent me off on a year long quest to find an unmade kit! I ended up buying the SH one in the picture as well and I still haven't even got round to making the kit....

Cheers,

David

I used to race those things back in the day (before they even had suspension in them, just monocoque flex! ah.. the good old days of AM R/C). So, back to modern times.. I SOOOO want to find one of those kits. The body with flares looks sweet. I so need to find one.. Google.. help me spend my money!!!!

FotoVeloce,

All roads lead to Ebay! As well as haunting Ebay on a worldwide search also check out some of the Ebay shops as you'll sometimes find a Buy-it-now hidden away. Search on Tamiya GT2 PIAA or Taisan.

Good luck!

Cheers,

David

Goys-if you want to drool-checkj out this site.
http://www.scaleautoworks.com/PorscheGT2transkit.html
There has been a GT2 transkit in the works for the Pocher kit!!!! It has yet to come out but I will pounce on it as soon as it does. FYI-I have both of the Tamiya GT2 kits, the PIAA (built) and the Starcard (NIB) versions-they are really nice-you just have to be used to dealing with clear RC bodies, painting from the inside, etc...

That looks great but it was last updated in 2005 so I'm not sure if it ever made it. I suspect that would cost mega bucks, judging by the other stuff on their site.

Cheers,

David
