Default Adding heated seats....

I am interested in buying a particular 98 Targa that like many California cars does not have heated seats..... The seats are those baggy leather jobs that in my opinion are better suited for a Buick. So I was wondering if there were Recaros that could be bought that had a heating element- more importantly, does anyone know about whether the switch is a "dummy" on non-heated cars. In other words is the switching and powering of such a seat an easy thing to do???? thanks

Not sure of the US market but at least here all 993's were delivered ready wired so that seat heat can be plugged straight in. I think (not sure) it is the purple harness-wire which is in the plug going into the electric seats. Given that your aftermarket seat has similar connection it should be a matter of plug'n'play.

Pass. All I know is that the 993's here (and yours I would guess) have the wiring for it...

Try to locate a set of Porsche heated seats, and then it would be plug & play.

Try the Recaro website here

You can definitely get heated recaro seats, and they all seem to have the switching on the seat itself, thus making install easier.

Not everyone can live in Cale-e-fornicus......

On a cold day.....there's nothing better......

uban alchemist- have you visited the Recaro site for the purposes of determining which ones have heated surfaces? Obviously not- but thanks for the attitude....

SSARCHI:
I opened this thread because I too am looking for heated seats. I'd love a pair of Recaros, but they are pricey with the heating/ventilation option.
The comments directing you to the Recaro website were not out of line. The best information of what is available from Recaro is right on their website. It is very easy to use and spells out clearly which models of Recaros can be heated. I know because I have gone to the website many times.
The only attitude here seems to be yours. The general consensus of Rennlist members and users is that you should do the basic research for information on your own. Then ask others to help when you need more info. Ligthen up a little and you will find this place, especially the 993 forum, to be a great place for information and encouragement for all your Porsche projects.
Incidentally, all US 993s were pre-wired for the heated seat option. Thus, if you find a Porsche seat with the heating elements, all you need to do is plug the seat into the wire coming out of the carpet and you are good to go. Porsche offered sports seats with the heating option for 993s.
Good luck.
Michael

yes some of us do use the heated seats, here on the east coast many an evening i take er out for a spin- windows and/or roof open so as to hear the beautiful symphony at my back aka engine /exhaust, and the heated seats are key to making this possible.
